About the Cotton Team
Cotton Weddings was created from Michelle Able Photography where Michelle photographed everything from weddings to babies to high school seniors to events. A few years after Kellan started photographing weddings with Michelle, they got engaged and really struggled to find the perfect videographer for their wedding. They knew their wedding couples had been feeling the same way so in 2015, Michelle and Kellan, with the help of Alyssa, ventured into creating light, beautiful wedding films that matched the soft, warm style of their photography. After a few films, word got out and weddings became an even bigger part of their lives! In December 2015, the team created Cotton Weddings, a sister company to Michelle Able Photography so that they could really focus on creating beautiful wedding photographs & films!
Most importantly, we are a company of photographers & videographers that love God above all else! He is the reason we are able to do what we do and our motivator behind it all. Our belief is that we love because He loved us first and as storytellers, we absolutely love seeing people in love! Love is beautiful to us and, quite honestly, makes our hearts melt. We love all the details…the way you fit just perfectly into your fiancee’s arms, the way your dad cries when he sees you in your wedding dress, the way your flower girl looks up to you with stars in her eyes…those are the little moments that we get to witness and document and it’s the greatest gift!
Hi! I’m Michelle Able Caldwell, owner & photographer here at Cotton! I’m a Texas girl with a little California flair—I’ve spent about half my time thus far between both places (born there, grew up here, college there, and now back here). I never thought I’d be a professional photographer, but I just loved photographing friends and family. Seeing the joy it brought them inspired me and I transferred to Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California! I graduated in 2010 with a degree in Portraiture and hit the ground running building Michelle Able Photography, my sister company for lifestyle and family photography.
I moved back to Houston in 2011 and met the love of my life, Kellan, a few months later. We tied the knot March 7, 2015, before God and all of our friends and family on the most beautiful day! When I’m not photographing engagement sessions or shooting weddings along side the hubby & best friend, you can find me in the kitchen baking, running around with our little Elli dog teaching her new tricks, or at a Rockets game with Kellan!
Howdy, y’all! I’m Kellan Caldwell, owner/lead videographer/photographer/bug crusher/mr. fix-it and husband to the boss over here at Cotton. I was born and raised in Houston, left for 4 years for a finance degree at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, then promptly returned home. It didn’t take too long after Michelle and I met that she recruited me to second shoot with her at weddings. What can I say? I couldn’t stand being apart from her on Saturdays so I obliged and now I enjoy every minute I get to share this part of her life with her. Part of that joy involves getting to hang out with the groom and his guys on wedding days. Having experienced the thrill of getting married recently, I know first-hand just how fun it can be having your best friends there with you.
It was late in my high school career and heading into college that I originally thought I was going to be a movie producer (I ended up getting a finance degree instead) so getting to do wedding films and photography feeds that side of me. When I’m not shooting weddings along side my beautiful bride, you can find me playing pretty much any sport, mostly basketball, or playing guitar or cheering like crazy at Rockets games with Michelle! I’m a huge nerd and I geek out whenever a superhero movie comes out. Also, anything from the ’90s is my jam!
Hi! I’m Alyssa, a photographer/designer/creative and newest member of the Cotton team! I’m a Houston native who’s always had a pretty serious case of wanderlust. That sense of adventure led me to Colorado for a few years where I fell in love with the mountains, the crisp, bright air, and snowboarding, of course. Eventually, I discovered that my friends and family back home had my heart and Texas was where I wanted to be!
Being creative has always been a passion of mine. I find such joy and delight in creation. Learning a new trade is always really exciting for me (woodworking is next on the list!) and one of my favorite pastimes is to paint with one of my best friends, Caroline! When I’m not wediting (our little nickname for editing weddings), I’m usually having a Harry Potter or (insert HBO show here) marathon whilst drinking craft beer. In all seriousness, it is a huge blessing to work on this team with my best friend and her husband doing something so beautiful and meaningful. Plus, I get a front row seat to watch these two lovebirds (or Michellan as I call them) do this crazy thing called newlywed life!
